This course is an introduction to the grammar and structure of the Louisiana Creole language (sometimes referred to as Kouri-Vini). Students will learn the fundamentals of speaking, reading and writing in Louisiana Creole. Students will also be introduced to aspects of Louisiana Creole’s history that shed light on the development of this beautiful language which is the sole French-based Creole language spoken in the United States. This language developed in Louisiana, but is an element of Louisiana’s culture that links this region to our cultural cousins in the Caribbean and to those as far away as Mauritius.
