"product_content": "A special screening of Petit Pays, a powerful adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Gaël Faye. Directed by Éric Barbier, the film takes us to Burundi in the early 1990s, on the eve of civil war and the Rwandan genocide. Through the eyes of Gabriel, a young boy growing up in a comfortable expatriate neighborhood, we witness a childhood filled with carefree moments—bike rides, friendships, and family life—gradually overshadowed by rising ethnic tensions and political unrest. As violence creeps closer, the film delicately portrays the loss of innocence and the fragmentation of a once-peaceful world. At once intimate and sweeping, Petit Pays explores themes of identity, exile, memory, and belonging. With its lush visuals, sensitive storytelling, and deeply human perspective, the film offers a poignant entry point into a complex chapter of African and Francophone history—making it both an emotional cinematic experience and a powerful conversation starter. Genre: Documentary Audio & Subtitles: English### Synopsis A new documentary, \"Mavis: One Simple Sentence,\" tells the inspiring story of Mavis Arnaud Fruge, the woman who ignited a cultural revolution to save Louisiana French. A Life Dedicated to Language PreservationThe year is 1921. Louisiana lawmakers ban French in classrooms, silencing the language for generations of families. Decades later, a retired Mavis Fruge embarks on a seemingly insurmountable mission: to revive the language stolen from her community. From Quiet Retirement to Tireless Champion\"Mavis: One Simple Sentence\" delves into Fruge's extraordinary journey. At a time when most lives slow down, Fruge dedicates two decades to a tireless quest. Her \"French Tables\" bring communities together, fostering pride in their heritage and language. A Legacy of Cultural and Economic ImpactFruge's efforts don't stop at conversation. Fruge's herculean efforts spark a \"cultural economy\" phenomenon, attracting global attention. Honors and Ongoing MissionNow in her eighties, Fruge remains a towering figure. Knighted twice by the French government, an honor typically reserved for national heroes, she continues her mission. Her dream - establishing St. Luc's, the first-ever Louisiana French immersion school in the U.S. - would revolutionize language education. More Than a Story, an Inspiration\"Mavis: One Simple Sentence\" is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to make a difference. Viewer Discretion Advised. From the DowDance Company: \"Hommage au Negre\" is an immersive performance experience that investigates the similarities and differences in the African and African American experiences. Originally created in 2022 in Benin Republic, \"Hommage Au Negre\" catapults audiences into a world beyond enslavement where cultural identity for both African and African Americans are continuously shifting. This dance performance dares to comment on the languages and relationships between traditional values, transformed within the American context, that challenges what it means to be defined as African. Hommage au Negre is a title intentionally chosen to bring forward uncomfortable topics surrounding identity, racism, and colonization. The work is based on the lived experiences of the artists as African descendants. It is grounded in research on the etymology of the word within historical and social contexts. The artists are aware of the trauma that is associated with the word, however, through sharing their own stories that step outside of clichés and into their own trauma, it is their hope that dialogue occurs with an open audience that is ready and willing to learn. Aicha's originality becomes more conspicuous when she takes up a camera to confront this controlling society and makes her condition the subject of her film. Far from being a personal complaint or autofiction, the young Nigerian filmmaker questions the place of women in her country by letting them speak out. Through personal and family conversations, voices and stories emerge that paint a moving and appalling picture of the off-screen social world. Macky gently lands a muffled but hard-hitting punch to religious and traditional consciences, all while respecting those she films. Macky's innovative approach challenges norms and offers a deep understanding of women's roles in Nigerian society. 'Arbre sans fruit \/ The Fruitless Tree by Aïcha Elhadj MackyWoman among MothersOlivier Barlet Translated by Beti Ellerson The jury of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in June 2016 granted its documentary prize to L'Arbre sans fruit \/ The Fruitless Tree, by Aïcha Elhadj Macky, coproduced by Sani Magori, who won the same award in 2009 with Pour le meilleur et pour l'oignon \/ For the Best and for the Onion. Both of these films, which come from the training and production circuit Africadoc, are part of the Lumières du Monde Collection. Macky was only five years old when her mother died after childbirth. It is this trauma that Macky, who is married without children, reconstructs in this film about infertility. She starts with childbirth: the calm and the advice of the midwife, the fatigue of the mother, the arrival of the child. She then moves to a spoken letter that refers back to the event: \"Dear Mother, behind the camera, I tremble throughout my body,\" before concluding, \"In my sleepless nights, your spirit guides my steps.\" This film speaks to us, as it knows how to build on the emotion of this personal implication, as an interrogation of society, a question posed to all of us. The task was not easy, as the subject remains taboo in Nigerien society. How to convince one to share such an experience? An eco-designed exhibition based on the eponymous comic strip by Jean-Marc Jancovici and Christophe Blain (Dargaud, 2021). The Endless World is a comic strip about a parachutist who knits while eating chocolate, seasick sailors, dinosaurs talking about SUVs, a radioactive apostle, Mother Nature, Easter eggs, and very incidentally energy, climate, and why the world is made the way it is made. The exhibition, adapted from this album, illustrates the meeting and the long dialogue between its two authors – Jean-Marc Jancovici playing the role of guide, Christophe Blain du candide – on the subjects of energy: use throughout History, rise of fossil fuels, and humanity's impact on its environment and in particular on the climate. No doubt, it is necessary take action ! But where to start, and what to do? Non-carbon energies, food, transport, urban planning: the exhibition also discusses possible solutions. The French Institute wanted to adapt this comic strip in the form of an eco-designed exhibition, to help raise awareness the public to the issue of ecological transition, everywhere in the world, within the network of French Institutes, Alliances French and their partners. Exhibit organized in partnership with Institut Francais, University of Texas - Austin, Alliance Francaise de Houston, Alliance Francaise de Dallas & the Consulate General of France in New Orleans.Un grand merci à Emmanuel Henriet, Expert Technique International pour la Louisiane et le Texas sur les questions d'énergies et de développement durable, pour son soutien.",

In partnership with the Nous Foundation. About the musicians:Clara Jasmine is a jazz violinist from Paris with a singular blend of musical influences. She first fell in love with the violin in Scotland, where musicians used traditional styles as a base camp for brand new sonic explorations. Back in Paris, she became fascinated by the rhythms of gypsy jazz, musette waltzes and the playing of violinist Stephane Grappelli. In 2012, she followed her passion for jazz to New Orleans, Louisiana. She studied music at the University of New Orleans while pursuing a more informal but equally instructive jazz education playing at music clubs throughout the city. After moving to Mexico in 2020, Clara has created her own project called La Mancha Cuarteto, whose music reflects her Transatlantic wanderings and which has now performed in all the major jazz venues of Mexico City. She also currently plays and records with Sonora Propaganda, a band created by the bass player of the iconic Mexican band Maldita Vecindad, and dedicates her time to learning Son Huasteco, a violin-driven Mexican fiddle Style. -----Nelson Williams is an upright and electric bass player based in New Orleans, LA. Born and raised in South Louisiana, Nelson is a child of the diverse and influential music culture that permeates throughout the region. Nelson's range of musical influences extend from classical to jazz to various forms of Black string-band music (Old-Time, Blues, Bluegrass, Creole). An \"On-Call\" and \"Go-To\" bass player while in New Orleans, Nelson has performed across the nation and aboard at venues and festivals like the Kennedy Center, NPR Tiny Desk, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Fire in the Mountain Festival and more. He has recently been seen supporting artist such as Jake Blount, Eva Lovullo, Katie Martucci, Lizzie No and others.-----Romain Beauxis discovered New Orleans over a decade ago. Originally planning to teach and do research in Computer Science for a couple of years, he in fact ended up finding a new home and a renewed interest in its music and culture. Nowadays, Romain performs, promotes and organizes several musical projects. He has led the traditional jazz band Sabertooth Swing for over 5 years, producing 3 albums, the last of which being nominated for best traditional jazz album by Offbeat magazine. Through his love of both New Orleans and French culture, Romain has also organized and promoted cross-over projects mixing French chansons and pop music with New Orleans music and instrumentation, the last of which being the Sunset Jazz Band, co-led with French violinist Clara Jasmine.",
