The Neighborhood Story Project is honored to present, "New African Orleans," a celebration of the musical connections between Dakar, Lagos, and New Orleans. Led by Senegalese musician and composer Alune Wade, the concert will feature special guests from New Orleans, including Sunni Patterson (poetry), Kirk Joseph (sousaphone), Corey Henry (trombone), David Mckissick (trumpet), and St. Julian X (saxophone).In his music, Alune blends Afrobeat and jazz, to trace the deep connections between West African rhythms, Lagos grooves, and the brass from New Orleans. As Alune explains, “I explore a world from my Senegalese roots to the branches across the Atlantic... I wanted to head west and start a musical conversation with the finest artists in Nigeria and New Orleans.
