GETTING STARTED
Beginners are encouraged to start with 'Initiation to French’ (Absolute Beginner) or A1.1 courses.
The A1 level includes our “Initiation” Absolute Beginner course, as well as our courses A1.1 – A1.4, and A1 Review courses. These courses
cover French language instruction starting with the alphabet, pronunciation, masculine and feminine nouns, and basic introductions and
progress to include coverage of simple present and past tenses, everyday vocabulary, basic requests, interrogation, imperative statements,
prepositions and adverbs of place, expressions of quantity, the imperfect and more.
Immersion | Small classes
At the Alliance Française, we teach French in French. This is because immersion is proven to be the best way to learn a language—especially for beginners. In addition to classes, attending our many cultural events and taking advantage of our libraries will ensure you make progress in your journey with French. As our classes average at about five students per class, you are sure to receive individualized attention from our native-speaker instructors.
Online Instruction
Beginning in the Spring 2020 session, the AFNO switched to a completely online system of instruction due to the COVID-19 crisis. Even
with in-person classes resuming, we will still over online classes. Learning French online with the AFNO includes face-to-face virtual
learning with our instructors via Zoom, complimented by additional documents and resources provided via our distant-learning
platform, Apolearn (learn more about Apolearn here.)
Online learning has proven to be very effective and popular among our student-base. While we're excited to be hosting in-person
classes again, online classes will remain an option at the AFNO.

Conversation classes à la carte
The Alliance Française hosts weekly conversation classes for the intermediate to advanced levels through a punch card system. Punch cards
are available for our Intermediate and Advanced Conversation classes in 10, 20, and Unlimited class options. The same conversation
classes you love, now with more flexibility to fit your busy schedule.
