Festival & Special Events

Four times a year, the Alliance Française de La Nouvelle-Orléans transforms the city into a celebration of the French-speaking world. From a month-long journey across the Francophonie to our biggest party of the summer, these flagship events bring together students, families, educators, and Francophiles of all backgrounds — bienvenue à tous!

Francophonie Month

Francophonie Month

March — Each March, we celebrate la Semaine de la Francophonie: a week (and a month!) of programs exploring the incredible diversity of French-speaking cultures, from Canada to Congo-Brazzaville, from Paris to Lafayette.

Expect film screenings and open-air cinema, storytelling evenings, Rendez-vous de l'Alliance talks with researchers and artists, book sales, and partner events — all celebrating French as a living language shared by millions across five continents.

Festinema Junior

May — Festinema Junior is the annual French-language film festival created by the Alliance Française network in the United States for young audiences aged 3 to 18.

Every spring, children and teenagers discover the world through the lens of Francophone cinema at the historic Prytania Theatre. Films are shown in their original French version with English subtitles, with selections tailored to each age group — a truly cultural and educational experience for immersion schools, French learners, and families alike.

Bastille Day Fête

Bastille Day Fête

JulyLiberty, culture, and joie de vivre! Our Bastille Day Fête is the largest French National Day celebration in the Gulf South — and AFNO's biggest fundraising event of the year.

Join us at the Yellow House for a village-style evening under the stars: delicious French cuisine, fine wines, live music and DJs, a French costume contest, and family-friendly activities. From lifelong Francophones to curious beginners, everyone is welcome to raise a glass to freedom and the French language.

My French Book Fest

November — My French Book Fest is Louisiana's only youth literature festival entirely in French, presented with the Consulate General of France in Louisiana and Villa Albertine.

Across New Orleans, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge, French and Francophone authors and illustrators visit immersion schools and lead workshops, storytelling sessions, book signings, and a free family book fair — sparking young imaginations and promoting the joy of reading in French, from pre-K to high school.
