For the spring semester, the program will focus on French films that are interpretations of contemporary or modern French literature.

30 janvier: Time Regained: Le Temps Retrouvé, Raúl Ruiz

Time Regained (French: Le Temps retrouvé) is a 1999 French psychological drama film directed by the Chilean filmmaker Raúl Ruiz. It is an adaptation of the 1927 final volume of the seven-volume series In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust. The plot is about the anonymous narrator of In Search of Lost Time who reflects on his past experiences while lying on his deathbed.

The choice to develop the last volume of In Search of Lost Time allows the film to refer to the entire novel. For example, the film shows an episode of the first volume, Swann's Way (1913), usually referred to as "the lady in pink," as a flashback of Time Regained.

27 février: Promise at Dawn (French: La Promesse de l'aube) is a 2017

Promise at Dawn (French: La Promesse de l'aube) is a 2017 drama film directed by Éric Barbier, from a screenplay written by Barbier and Marie Eynard. It is the second screen adaptation of Romain Gary's 1960 autobiographical novel Promise at Dawn, following Jules Dassin's 1970 version. The film is a co-production between France and Belgium. It stars Pierre Niney and Charlotte Gainsbourg. It had its world premiere at the 22nd Busan International Film Festival on 14 October 2017. It was released in France and Belgium on 20 December 2017.

26 mars Dernier Amour , Benoît Jacquot, 2019

London, 18th century. Casanova, famous for his taste for pleasure and gambling, arrives from Paris, forced into exile. In his new film, "Casanova, dernier amour", Jacquot, who is now seventy-four, turns his artistic practice on its head and looks at it in retrospect. It's a classic "late film" which, with the contemplative distance of experience, addresses his deepest concerns with apparent simplicity. Here, the tensions that virtually marked and striated his best earlier films rage beneath the surface, no less intensely, and add far-reaching ironies to a familiar story.

23 avril La Belle Noiseuse is a 1991 drama film directed by Jacques Rivette and starring Michel Piccoli, Jane Birkin and Emmanuelle Béart. Loosely adapted from the 1831 short story Le Chef-d'œuvre inconnu (The Unknown Masterpiece) by Honoré de Balzac, and set in present-day France, it tells how a famous old artist is stimulated to come out of retirement and do one last painting of a beautiful young woman. The film won the Grand Prix at the 1991 Cannes Film Festival.
