Nearly one year after his virtual Rendez-vous de l'Alliance and the release of his album, Whisper of a Shadow Opus 1, French musician and composer, Yohan Giaume returns in person to the AFNO to discuss the life and musical importance of Louisiana Creole composer, Louis Moreau Gottschalk.
Giaume will present selections of Gottschalk accompanied by the historical and musical significance of each piece.

About Yohan Giaume:
Composer-arranger, trumpeter, producer and
ethnomusicologist, Yohan Giaume is building an oeuvre that combines his passion for world music traditions and the exploration of new
genres, by developing creative and enriching collaborations and partnerships with other artists. For almost 15 years, Giaume has been
traveling around the world to explore the origins and intersections of music between the Americas, Europe and Africa. His motivation is
less academic and more focused on creating contemporary settings for vital traditions so they continue to inform and inspire. His
musical collaborations include artists such as La Banda de Santiago de Cuba, Benito Suarez, Kocani Orkestar, Juan Carlos Caceres, Felix
Casaverde (Susanna Baca), Minnesota Symphony Orchestra, Evan Christopher, Manu Dibango among many others. Winner of the “Hors les
Murs” award (2012) from the Institut Français and the French American Jazz Exchange Award (2016), Giaume carries out his latest
work on the musical traditions of New Orleans, the starting point for his latest creation entitled Whisper of a shadow, inspired by
Louisiana composer Louis Moreau Gottschalk. Whisper of a Shadow Opus 1 was unanimously praised by the international media (Wall Street
Journal, Le Monde, Télérama, Rolling Stone Magazine, All About Jazz, France Musique, FIP., Hit Couleur Jazz..).
