So you’ve decided you’d like to learn French. You’re an absolute beginner, and don’t know where to start. Beginner Step 1 is the course for you! This course serves as a bienvenue to the French language. Throughout this ten-week course, you will discover the beauty of the French language, and cover the basics, such as introducing yourself and others (Bonjour, je m’appelle Jean), spelling and counting (un, deux, trois…), and general greetings and politeness (Salut, s’il vous plait, merci beaucoup). You’ll also learn how to ask a question, how to communicate, and explain why you are learning French. This course is designed for complete beginners of French, and no prior knowledge is necessary.


25 hours to complete the sublevel in 10 weeks | 2.5 hours a week | 1 class of 2.5 hours per week

This course is designed for students with no French language background.

For all onsite classes, the Alliance Francaise de la Nouvelle-Orléans will be requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the previous 72 hours, in accordance with the mandate issued by the city of New Orleans, for all visitors and students attending onsite classes. Everyone will still be required to wear a mask, teachers will be able to wear transparent masks.

Per city guidelines: to prove vaccination status, individuals can use the LA Wallet app; an original, digital photograph, or photocopy of CDC vaccination cards (both sides); or an official vaccine record issued by another state, foreign nation, or the World Health Organization. Physical or electronic test results from PCR COVID-19 test indicating negative results within the past 72 hours will be accepted. Antigen tests are not accepted.
